Nexus: un enfoque único para la salud mental de los jóvenes

Imagine un mundo donde cada estudiante tenga acceso a apoyo de salud mental confiable y confiable, al alcance de su mano. Esta es la visión detrás de Nexus, una innovadora plataforma en línea diseñada para revolucionar la forma en que abordamos las necesidades de salud mental de los jóvenes. Presentamos Nexus, una plataforma en línea diseñada para brindar a los estudiantes herramientas de autogestión para el bienestar mental. Ofrece una variedad de recursos (videos, charlas con pares, estrategias de afrontamiento) a través de una aplicación y un sitio web fáciles de usar. Al aumentar el acceso al apoyo y reducir el estigma, Nexus tiene como objetivo reducir la carga de los consejeros y equipar a los estudiantes para gestionar de forma proactiva su salud mental. Mejorar el apoyo a la salud mental de los jóvenes: por qué es importante

Las investigaciones muestran que una parte importante de los jóvenes luchan por acceder a recursos de salud mental. Los jóvenes enfrentan cuatro obstáculos importantes:

Barreras: El estigma que rodea la salud mental es un problema importante: se informa que un tercio de los jóvenes tiene opiniones negativas.
Falta de recursos: Hay escasez de consejeros escolares, y un solo consejero suele ser responsable de más de 600 estudiantes. Además, la terapia puede resultar costosa.
Sobrecarga de recursos y aislamiento: la gran cantidad de recursos disponibles puede ser abrumadora y los sentimientos de aislamiento pueden obstaculizar aún más el comportamiento de búsqueda de ayuda.
Acceso limitado: como resultado de estos desafíos, un asombroso 60% de los jóvenes con depresión carecen de atención médica mental adecuada.

Porque es allí donde los adolescentes enfrentan más barreras, necesitan más apoyo y ya tienen conexiones existentes. Nexus pretende integrarse perfectamente en este sistema existente, llegar a un público más amplio y generar un impacto duradero en innumerables vidas. E implementarlo solo para las escuelas lo hace aún más único que cualquier otro centro de salud mental o salud conductual.

Historia del origen de Nexus

"Nexus" - conexión/vinculación de cosas

¡Hola a todos! Mi nombre es Taanvi Arekapudi, estudiante de noveno grado y fundador de Nexus: Mental Health Hub for Schools. La idea de Nexus surgió cuando estaba compartiendo mis experiencias. Escribí el bestseller internacional Uplift Teens Today y creé la baraja Emotion Cards. Al compartir mi historia, los desafíos de salud mental, las estrategias y las Tarjetas de Emociones con otros adolescentes, vi una conexión real. ¡Apreciaron la ayuda!

Pero había un anhelo de más. Los estudiantes anhelaban apoyo continuo, un sentido de conexión con los demás y acceso a información confiable. Esto no se limitó a mi propia escuela. Los estudiantes de todos los distritos, de todo el país y de diversos orígenes se hicieron eco de estas necesidades. Anhelaban una fuente constante de apoyo, recursos confiables y la oportunidad de conectarse con pares que enfrentaban desafíos similares. ¡Sus voces encendieron una idea! Un centro de salud mental parecía la respuesta perfecta. La palabra "Nexus" resonó porque significa "conexión" y eso es exactamente lo que imaginé. Este centro mejoraría el apoyo a la salud mental de los jóvenes al derribar barreras, aumentar el acceso y amplificar las voces que exigen un cambio.

Construir Nexus no fue una misión en solitario. Un experto en UI (interfaz de usuario) incorporó ideas de adolescentes en el diseño. Este enfoque de "hecho por jóvenes y para jóvenes" resonó profundamente. A través de grupos focales previos al lanzamiento, los pares expresaron cómo Nexus podría revolucionar su viaje hacia la salud mental. Su entusiasmo alimentó nuestra pasión.

Nexus es más que una simple idea. Es un MOVIMIENTO. Estamos empoderando a los adolescentes para que se apoyen unos a otros, construyendo un futuro donde los recursos de salud mental sean accesibles e inclusivos. Este es solo el comienzo. ¡Únase a nosotros en este viaje!

Bhavya Kottapalli

Hello, my name is Bhavya Kottapalli. I am a high school junior passionate about neuroscience, mental health advocacy, and the intersection of technology and medicine. I have volunteered in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, lead youth wellness initiatives, and conduct research on stroke prediction and seizure detection using machine learning. At Nexus, I serve on the Executive Team, where I lead the Focus Group + Research Committee to amplify youth voices and drive data-informed solutions for community impact.

Neel Khilnani

Social Media + Storytelling Team Leader

My name is Neel Khilnani, and I am a sophomore at North Creek High School (NCHS). I am currently serving as the Social Media & Storytelling Executive Team Representative for Nexus. Outside of Nexus, I’m the Treasurer of my school’s Science Olympiad team and the Secretary of both Band Council at NCHS and the nonprofit Student Music Initiatives. I’m passionate about mental health, engineering, music, and history, and I hope to use those interests to uplift youth voices and raise awareness about mental health!

Hello! My name is Arabella and I am a junior at North Beach high school. I am the North Beach Teens Against Destructive Decisions president, ASB treasure, a swimmer and diver, and I am on track. My whole life I have only wanted to help people and now I have found a wonderful place to do just that at Nexus and make my dream even more of a reality!

Ishaan Bhattacharya

My name is Ishaan Bhattacharya, and I'm a sophomore at Inglemoor High School who is heavily motivated to learn more about mental health, and help people who are struggling. I am a part of the UW Forefront Program at my school to help people know what to do if they, or someone they know are thinking about suicide. I want to help reduce the negative stigma around mental health, and that's one of the many reasons I'm incredibly excited to work in Nexus.

I’m Ayaan Rizvi, and I am part of the Social Media + Storytelling Committee, where I get to connect with others and work together to better the world. I care deeply about making a positive impact and supporting people who might be going through tough times. Currently, I’m working on developing my social skills so I can be a more effective motivator and someone people feel comfortable turning to.

Eric Dodd

My name is Eric Dodd, and I'm a sophomore at Lake Washington High School, and a passionate advocate for mental health of all kinds. Most notably, I've worked with NAMI, the City of Kirkland, King County, and more to champion efforts in areas such as access to behavioral healthcare, or simply aiming to expand recourses and destigmatize mental health. I'm honored to be a part of the Nexus team, and I hope to continue to help give a voice to the voiceless. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, lifting weights, and playing all sorts of music.

My name is Dhaani Pohuja, and I am a senior at Tesla STEM High School. I am co-president of my school’s mental health club and a NAMI Youth Ambassador. I am passionate about mental health education and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Kavya Mohanasundaram

My name is Kavya Mohanasundaram, and I am a junior at North Creek High School. I am passionate about mental health advocacy, research, and leadership, and I strive to create positive change in my community through service and awareness initiatives. I am Maya Dobre and I am a senior at Tesla STEM High School. I take interest in all things regarding mental health, from the psychology behind it to making treatment more available for those in my community that may have difficulty receiving it. I believe that since everybody is affected by mental health, we all should be cooperating to make the world a nicer place.

I’m passionate about STEM and student leadership, which I pursue through Science Olympiad, peer tutoring, and school leadership positions.
